Platt Anderson Freeman developed this extraordinary design solution incorporating new living space in the Victorian era barn with a connecting link to its historic Greek Revival farm house. A key design feature is the modern insulated building envelope completely surrounding the old barn frame so that its reconfigured interior can recall the ambiance of its original use with the warm patina of old wood. Even the names of draft horses remain carved in the wood headers over the
former stall doors. The spacious barn and link serve as the main living spaces for the owners with the original house used primarily as a guest house. Click here to see the book on whose cover this project was featured. |

The interior detailing defines the space and draws inspiration from early nineteenth century maritime joinery. |
This house on Martha's Vineyard sits in the south west corner of the island.

Platt Anderson Freeman designed this Caribbean retreat on the Bahamian island of Abaco to capture panoramic views of the Ocean and withstand 170 mile-per-hour hurricane winds. |
Built on a lush tropical ocean front site, the house is structured a full level above grade with generous openings to provide panoramic views while drop down shutters provide complete closure for inclement weather. The house is carefully structured to withstand the wind force of fierce tropical storms. The complex includes a large cistern which stores fresh water fed through the drainage system from the roof. |
